Why You’ll Love Cooking Chicken Sausage in the Air Fryer

  • Fast — ready in 8–10 minutes.
  • Healthy — lower fat than pork sausage.
  • Hands-off — no flipping on a skillet or dirty pans.
  • Ideal for meal prep — reheats perfectly.
  • Kid-friendly — great for toddlers and quick lunches.
  • Versatile — serve with veggies, pasta, rice bowls, or salads.

Growing up, my mom made the best sausage, peppers, and onions — so chicken sausage became my healthier adult version of that nostalgic meal. This is now one of my go-to options when I want something high protein, quick, and packed with flavor.

Hi Arlene! Yes, cooking times will vary based on type of sausage used and personal preference of “doneness”. Hope you enjoyed!

  2. Does the air fryer need to be preheated? Also, do you recommend poking a couple of holes in the sausages or will they not split while cooking?

    1. kabbagehart says:

Hi Jessica! The air fryer does not need to be preheated but you can pre-heat if you’d like. Also I wouldn’t recommend poking holes in the sausages as that will allow the juices to run from them making them drier. The sausages I used did not split while cooking however note that every brand may cook differently. I hope that helps!

Yes you do preheat it. You do also poke hole so it won’t explode.
It doesn’t mess with the juices

Hi Kristy!vI didn’t poke holes in mine and didn’t have any issues with them bursting, but that’s a great precaution if you’re worried about it. Thanks for sharing!
