Like most people I love a good burger but sometimes I crave something a little lighter than a traditional beef burger. These homemade chicken burgers are a perfect alternative to a regular beef burger. These juicy chicken burgers still pack a flavorful punch thanks to some very simple ingredients.

- Healthier Option: Compared to beef burgers, chicken burgers are often perceived as a healthier choice due to lower fat content.
- Texture: Chicken burgers can have a tender texture that appeals to those who prefer a lighter bite compared to beef.
- Customization: They can be customized with different toppings, sauces, and accompaniments to suit individual preferences.
INGREDIENTS FOR BEST GROUND CHICKEN BURGERS
The ingredients are pretty simple for these chicken burgers and guaranteed you have most or all of these on hand.
- Ground chicken – ground chicken is a leaner option than beef and some ground turkey options. It has a slightly sweet flavor and absorbs flavors well from seasonings and sauces.
- Worcestershire sauce – is sweet, tangy and spicy and adds a umami flavor to these chicken patties.
- Mustard – this is my secret ingredient to keep the chicken burgers moist while adding a slightly tangy flavor.
- Spices – a blend of black pepper, salt, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder and dried parsley is combined to season the ground chicken mixture.
TOPPINGS FOR CHICKEN BURGER
You can customize toppings to your liking however I stuck with some traditional toppings:
- Whole wheat buns – I like these whole wheat hamburger buns by Nature’s Valley but any variety will do.
- Cheese – I like the blend of Colby Jack cheese on chicken burgers but you can use whatever cheese you prefer.
- Red onion – sliced red onions adds some crunch and texture to the burgers
- Lettuce – any variety will do you can use romaine, butter or iceberg lettuce
- Tomato – adds a natural sweetness
- Pickles – dill pickles add just the right amount of sour and salty flavor
HOW TO MAKE BURGER PATTIES
Full recipe details including ingredient amounts are listed below in the recipe card.
Preheat your outdoor grill or grill pan to 350 degrees. Spray the grill with a high heat cooking spray like avocado oil.
In a medium bowl, add the pound of ground chicken. Next add the mustard, Worcestershire sauce and spice blend. Combine chicken mixture throughly with hands ensuring not to over mix. Once done, score the patty mixture with your hand down the middle to make 4 equal patties.
Next form the burger patty with your hands and place them on the preheated grill. Grill on each side for approximately 3-5 minutes. Cook time may vary based on the thickness of your patties. Cook until the internal temperature reads 165 degrees. Remove from grill once cooked through and place a slice of cheese on top to melt.
While the burgers are cooking, you can opt to toast your burger buns on the grill or in the toaster. Once the buns are toasted remove.
ASSEMBLING BURGERS
On a large cutting board, place the toasted bun down toasted side up. Add condiments like mayo and mustard to the bun. To the bottom bun add the chicken patty, top with red onions, tomato, pickles and lettuce. Place the top of the bun on top. Enjoy!
HOW TO CUSTOMIZE BURGERS
You can easily customize these burgers to your liking. Here are a few options to try and mix things up:
Dijon mustard – add a spicy kick with using dijon mustard instead of yellow mustard
Chipotle peppers – If you’re looking to amp up the heat level add a tablespoon of chipotle sauce to the chicken mixture
Lettuce wrap – make them low carb by wrapping the burgers in romaine or Bibb lettuce
Cheese – swap out the Colby jack for Swiss cheese, Pepperjack cheese or provolone cheese
WHAT TO SERVE WITH BURGERS
- Sweet potato fries
- French fries
- Tater tots
- Side Salad
