Why These Chicken Nuggets Are Perfect for Babies

When it came time for my daughter to start solid foods, I was honestly terrified. I knew she was ready — she stared very intensely at my plate — but I wasn’t exactly confident about where to begin.

What I did know was this:
I wanted her first finger foods to be real food, made from common foods we already eat as a family.

These homemade chicken nuggets became our go-to because they’re:

  • perfect finger food for babies learning to self-feed
  • Soft, easy to gum, and made with small pieces of vegetables
  • A great way to introduce solid foods without added sugar
  • fair source of protein from white meat chicken
  • Easy to adapt for older kids and picky eaters

They’re also great for a quick lunch, meal prep, or freezer stash.le my family lives.

Are Chicken Nuggets Healthy for Babies?

Yes — when they’re homemade.

Unlike fast food chicken nuggets, these are made without added sugar, minimal sodium, and no mystery ingredients. They contain key nutrients like vitamin A, vitamin C, fiber, and protein, making them a nutritious meal on their own or paired with a simple side.

Because the vegetables are processed very fine in a food processor, they blend seamlessly into the meat mixture — which is why this is such a friendly recipe for picky eaters.

Tried this out and LOVED IT. My Baby so far likes it too…he’s officially 10 months old today so a couple of them (I pan fried (very small amount of oil) about a quarter of the batch yesterday and am currently baking the rest. Tried with breading and without – only gave him without. Also didn’t have zucchini so I sautéed some spinach with garlic and added that in with the veggie mix into the food processor. Omg. So so good! This recipe is a keeper and thank you for sharing it! I might make these for year even if just for me heehee

Can you freeze a batch of these? Good for 3 months frozen?

        1. kabbagehart says:

Yes, I froze a batch of these and wrapped them in saran wrap them foil and put them in a ziplock. I would say no longer than 3 months is good. Reheat in air fryer or oven to maintain crispiness.

  2. what temp should the air fryer be at?

    1. Kim Abbage Hart says:

It should be at 375 degrees. Thanks!

These are delicious! I made them for my granddaughter who is allergic to eggs so this was a perfect meal for her. I added a little bit more seasoning since she is an older child & likes adult food. Thank you for this great recipe! I will use this recipe as a base for adult chicken patty sandwiches in the future!
