SWEET POTATO FRIES SHORTCUT
While you can make sweet potato fries from scratch using whole sweet potatoes and cutting them into sweet potato wedges. I used a much simpler approach by using pre-made sweet potato fries. The brand I really like is Alexia Foods sweet potato fries as they have a variety to choose from. I used the crinkle cut fries for this recipe but I can see the sweet potato waffle fries standing up really well to the chili too.
However you choose to make your sweet potatoes, this is still to be one great and delicious dish.

HOW TO MAKE SWEET POTATO FRIES
Prep time for these loaded sweet potato fries is pretty easy so you won’t spend much time in the kitchen.
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
On a large baking sheet, cover with parchment paper and lay fries out in an even layer. Cook sweet potato fries to package directions (if using pre-made) in oven until browned and crispy. Once done, remove from oven and set aside.
While the fries are cooking, bring a non-stick skillet to medium-high heat and add avocado oil. Once skillet is heated add your onions and let soften. Once soften add your jalapeños’ and garlic and stir to combine.
Next brown the lean ground beef and season with your spices including black pepper, chili powder and garlic powder. Drain off any excess fat. Next add the 1/2 can of black beans and tomato sauce. Stir to combine and let simmer until it comes to a gentle bubble. Lastly add the Worcestershire sauce and let simmer for 5-10 minutes to combine all the flavors.
Once you’re ready to build your loaded fries, add your fries at the bottom, top with chili sauce, cheddar cheese and the additional additional toppings of your choice.
OPTIONAL TOPPINGS I USED
I decided to make these more like nachos so I added lots of fresh veggies to my fries. My toppings included:
- Shredded lettuce
- Cherry tomatoes
- Diced avocado
- Fresh cilantro
- Pickled jalapeños
- Pickled red onions
There are plenty of additional toppings you could use as well like:
- Green onions
- Feta cheese
- Crispy bacon
- Pico de gallo
- Red cabbage
- Sour cream

ALTERNATIVES TO TRY THAN CHILI CHEESE FRIES
While this leans more towards a traditional chili cheese fry, there are a few variations you can try as well. Pull BBQ chicken with a cheese sauce would work really well as loaded sweet potato fries. You could also sub the chicken and do BBQ pulled pork.
