I love mango salsa because of the fruity heat it adds to a dish. It’s perfect as a stand alone dip, healthy snack or a great topping for shrimp tacos, fish tacos, cilantro lime chicken breasts or burrito bowls. Not to mention, mango has a ton of nutritional benefits as a supercharged super fruit.
WHY HOMEMADE SALSAS
While store bought or pre-made salsa is great in a pinch, when you have the time, there truly is nothing like homemade salsas. I prefer it because you can tailor it to your taste buds. If you love spicy salsa, then you can add more jalapeño to amp it up. Alternatively, if you want it to be more fruit forward or have a more citrus flair, then you can add more lime juice. However you choose to make this easy 5-ingredient mango salsa recipe your own it’s guaranteed to be a crowd pleaser.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED
For this homemade mango salsa there are only a few simple ingredients you will need. There is one disclaimer for this salsa recipe and that is I do not count the main ingredient, in this case mango, as part of the ingredients list. It may be slightly fudged, but I needed a little wiggle room.
- Ripe Mangos
- Red onion
- Red bell pepper
- Fresh Cilantro
- Jalapeño peppers
- Lime juice
HOW TO MAKE EASY 5-INGREDIENT MANGO SALSA RECIPE
First on a large cutting board, dice your vegetables including the red onion, red pepper, and jalapeno peppers. Place these in a medium mixing bowl and sprinkle with a touch of salt.
Next, dice the mango into to cube size pieces. Place the diced mango in the bowl along with the other ingredients. On the cutting board, take your bunch cilantro and roll it into a thin roll and run your knife through it gently chopping it. Place the cilantro in the bowl with the remaining ingredients.
Lastly, juice lime over the fresh fruit salsa and give it a good stir to throughly combine all the flavors.
VARIATIONS TO EASY MANGO SALSA RECIPE
If you have a bit more time or want to slightly change the flavor of this already amazing dip, here are a few alternatives or additions you can try as well.
- Black beans – adding black beans makes this a heartier dip and becomes more of a side dish as well
- Green onion – if red onions are too bold for your palette try green onions instead as it has a softer flavor profile
- Habanero pepper – If you truly love spice then swap out the jalapeno pepper for habanero pepper to give it a spicier kick
- Blended – can easily change the consistency of the salsa by blending all the ingredients in a blender and serving as a more traditional salsa
HOW TO STORE SALSA
This easy recipe stores very quickly and easily in the fridge. Place the mango salsa in an airtight container and place in the refrigerator. Stores well for approximately 4 days.
