It comes together in a little under 20 minutes and is perfect for make ahead meals. If you are a big fan of salmon, also try this sushi salmon bowl that is equally delicious!
I love a good stir fry recipe and usually go with my go-to protein of choice, chicken. However I was looking for a way to jazz things up a bit and reached for some quick cooking salmon for this recipe. Salmon is full of rich antioxidants and a great source of omega 3 fatty acids not to mention it has so much flavor!
CAN I MAKE THIS TERIYAKI SALMON STIR FRY FOR MEAL PREP
Absolutely! While this is a great quick cooking dinner this meal is also perfect for meal prep. Once you have cooked the meal, simply portion out your servings into several meal prep containers. Allow the servings to cool to room temperature, place the lid on top and place in the fridge.
This meal stores really well for 3 days when stored properly. Once you’re ready to eat, just reheat the dish in the microwave for approximately 2 minutes and enjoy!

WHAT DO I NEED TO MAKE SALMON STIR FRY
Ingredients for this salmon stir fry recipe is simple and likely you will have most things on hand. Whenever I can, I always try to use a shortcut or substitutes for even quicker cooking. I had these frozen stir fry veggies on hand and decided to use that instead of tossing together my own.
Other main ingredients you will need are:
- Salmon chunks
- Sliced onions
- Sliced bell pepper
- Stir fry veggies
If you do choose to opt to make your own stir fry veggie combo, so me good options to include are: broccoli, sugar snap peas or snow peas, green beans, water chestnuts.
HOW TO MAKE THE STIR FRY MARINADE
I opted to make my own stir fry marinade from some of my pantry staple ingredients. Of course you can always choose to purchase a pre-made sauce if you like. I like this one and this one as options.
To make the homemade teriyaki sauce you will need:
- Hoisin sauce
- Soy Sauce
- Garlic chilli sauce
- Garlic
- Grated Ginger
- Corn starch
- Water
In a small bowl you will want to combine all ingredients except the water and cornstarch. Mix thoroughly to combine. Once combined, in a separate bowl mix the cornstarch and water to make a slurry. Once that is combined mix well with the sauce and set aside.
I enjoy making my own sauce because I can truly tailor it to my individual palette. If you like things on the spicier side you can add some red pepper flakes to the marinade for added heat. If sweet is more your option you can a touch of brown sugar, honey or agave for that added sweetness.
Full recipe details for the sauce is listed in the recipe card below.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAKING THE SALMON STIR-FRY RECIPE
First, gather all of your main ingredients including the salmon cubes, sliced onions, bell peppers and vegetables.
To prep your fresh salmon filet, de-skin the salmon and slice into medium size cubes or chunks. Place the chunks in a medium mixing bowl and season with 1 tsp of old bay, set aside.
Next heat a large frying pan to medium heat and add 1 teaspoons sesame oil. Once the oil is heated, add your salmon pieces and sear on all sides. Once the salmon is seared, remove from the pan and add remaining oil. Place your onions and bell peppers in the pan and gently pan fry the vegetables until they begin to soften or around 2 – 3 minutes. Once the vegetables are softened, combine salmon with the vegetables and add the stir fry vegetables to the pan.
Add your marinade sauce to the pan and allow to thicken. Optional, a delicious way to top this dish is by sprinkling sesame seeds and green onions on top.
Serve and enjoy!
